Kurinuki Cup Nº10 is a hand-carved sculptural ceramic cup crafted using the Japanese kurinuki technique. It combines a minimal silhouette with expressive blue carved details against a deep anthracite surface.

Unlike other pottery techniques, kurinuki begins with a solid block of clay. Each cup is slowly carved from a single mass of stoneware, allowing the form to emerge through subtraction rather than addition. This intuitive process creates textured, sculptural surfaces and organic asymmetry, as the material and hands guide its character. No two pieces are exactly alike.

Crafted from anthracite black stoneware, the exterior remains unglazed, revealing the raw textures and carving marks of the clay. Despite its stone-like appearance, the surface is carefully smoothed, offering a warm and soft tactile experience that contrasts with the coolness of glazed ceramics. With regular use, it becomes even more pleasant to hold. The interior is finished with a clear glossy glaze.

Each cup is individually numbered within the limited Nº10 series.

Product care

Although Ondou products are intended for everyday use, they are also functional art objects and require handling with care. While the high-fired stoneware ceramic is extremely durable and can resist scratches and common damages, it is still brittle and can break when too much force is applied. Avoid exposing your pottery to sudden temperature changes, such as placing a cold dish in the microwave or a hot dish in cold water, as this can cause thermal shock and damage.

Dishwasher safe?

Yes, but like with all hand-made objects, hand-washing is recommended.

Microwave safe?

Not recommended – clay is a highly conductive material and the piece will become very hot to the touch.
