Ondou Kurinuki Cup Nº13 is part of a limited-edition series, created as both functional drinkware and a small sculptural art object. Carved from dark brown stoneware, its form develops organically through hand carving. The surface is decorated with locally collected wild clay and sand, sealed beneath a clear glaze. As the glaze settles, it shifts from a milky tone to moments of transparency, revealing the clay beneath. The wild clay forms textured patterns that may evoke minerals, sea foam, or weathered stone. Despite its sculptural character, this cup is on the lighter side compared to other sculptural Ondou pieces.

Hand-carved using the Japanese kurinuki technique, each cup is slowly carved out from a single block of clay. This intuitive process creates textured surfaces and organic forms, often resulting in subtle asymmetry or non-rounded shapes — a natural part of the making process.

Each cup is slightly different and individually numbered within its batch of the Nº13 series.

Materials	High-fired stoneware clay
Product care	Ondou pieces are crafted as functional art objects. While made from high-fired stoneware fired to 1220 °C — which makes them highly durable and resistant to everyday wear — they are still ceramic and can break if dropped or subjected to strong impact. With proper care, they will last for many years. GENERAL CARE – Avoid sudden temperature changes (thermal shock). For example, do not pour boiling water into a cup that has been stored in the fridge, and avoid running cold water over a very hot piece. – Wash using a soft sponge and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive metal scrubbers, especially on decorated or textured surfaces. – Do not leave pieces soaking in a sink with food residues for extended periods — basic good hygiene. – Allow the piece to dry fully before storing in a closed cabinet. OPTIONAL DEEP CARE – If surface staining from dark liquids appears and you wish to gently refresh the surface, you may soak the piece in rice-washing water (the starchy water from rinsing rice), cold or warm. The natural starches can help draw out minor impurities, giving the surface a subtly smoother feel. This traditional method is gentle and not permanent, but can help maintain the appearance of ceramics over time.
Dishwasher safe?	No, the wild clay decoration may be damaged. While the clay body can withstand it, repeated cycles may affect the surface character.
Microwave safe?	No
Handmade nature	Each item is handmade and shows the marks of this process, including intentional “imperfections.” The products pictured reflect the overall shape, size and color of the piece. However, each item is unique, with differences in glaze, texture and slight variations in size, shape and capacity. Colors may also appear differently depending on lighting conditions and your screen. Dimensional variations can be up to ~1cm, capacity ~50ml, and weight ~50g.
