| Product care | Ondou pieces are crafted as functional art objects. While made from high-fired stoneware fired to 1220 °C — which makes them highly durable and resistant to everyday wear — they are still ceramic and can break if dropped or subjected to strong impact. With proper care, they will last for many years. OPTIONAL DEEP CARE |
| Dishwasher safe? | Yes, but hand-washing is recommended. Dishwashers and harsh detergents won't break the item itself, but they can gradually soften or wear down the decoration/glaze and alter its original finish. Use at your own discretion. |
| Microwave safe? | Not recommended – clay is a highly conductive material and the piece will become very hot to the touch. |
| About handmade nature | Each item is handmade and shows the marks of this process, including intentional “imperfections.” Colors may also appear differently depending on lighting conditions and your screen. |
Kurinuki Matcha Bowl Nº8

Carved from a beige stoneware with wave-like carvings, it has a strong, sculptural presence. Compared to brown stoneware bowls in the collection, this piece has a slightly heavier feel.
The exterior of this bowl is left unglazed, revealing raw clay textures and visible tool marks. The rhythmic cuts emphasize the movement of the hand and the natural resistance of the material. The interior and rim are finished with a matte white glaze, creating a soft contrast to the raw exterior. Intentional glaze crazing lines (fine surface lines in the glaze) appears, adding depth and character over time.
Inspired by traditional matcha bowls, it is designed for both whisking and sipping (without a spout), inviting a moment of pause — to observe its textures, decoration, and form, and to settle into presence before the first sip.
The bowl has a half-cylindrical shape (hantsutsu-gata chawan), with straighter sides and a flatter bottom, making it easier to whisk matcha.
It is marked on the base with its design number.
What is kurinuki?
Unlike other pottery techniques, kurinuki begins with a solid block of clay. The bowl is slowly carved from a single mass of stoneware, allowing the form to emerge through subtraction rather than addition. This intuitive process creates textured, sculptural surfaces and organic asymmetry, as the material and hands guide its character.
Special care piece. The glaze may develop light staining within the thin surface lines from tea over time. Please refer to the care instructions below to keep the surface refreshed.
