| Product care | Ondou pieces are crafted as functional art objects. While made from high-fired stoneware fired to 1220 °C — which makes them highly durable and resistant to everyday wear — they are still ceramic and can break if dropped or subjected to strong impact. With proper care, they will last for many years. OPTIONAL DEEP CARE |
| Dishwasher safe? | Hand-washing is recommended. Dishwashers and harsh detergents won't break the item itself, but they can gradually soften or wear down the decoration/wild clay and alter its original finish. |
| Microwave safe? | Not recommended – clay is a highly conductive material and the piece will become very hot to the touch. |
| About handmade nature | Each item is handmade and shows the marks of this process, including intentional “imperfections.” Colors may also appear differently depending on lighting conditions and your screen. |
Kurinuki Matcha Bowl Nº9

Carved from beige stoneware, its form develops organically with rhythmic carvings, giving it a sculptural presence that feels closer to an art object than conventional tableware. Compared to the brown stoneware bowls in the collection, this piece has a slightly heavier feel, emphasizing its sculptural nature.
The bowl is fully glazed with a glossy finish. Beneath, the exterior features wild clay and sand decoration with subtle blue spots, while the interior has hand-painted shades of blue and beige.
Inspired by traditional matcha bowls, it is designed for both whisking and sipping (without a spout), inviting a moment of pause — to observe its textures, decoration, and form, and to settle into presence before the first sip.
The bowl has a half-cylindrical shape (hantsutsu-gata chawan), with straighter sides and a flatter bottom, making it easier to whisk matcha.
It is marked on the base with its design number.
What is kurinuki?
Unlike other pottery techniques, kurinuki begins with a solid block of clay. The bowl is slowly carved from a single mass of stoneware, allowing the form to emerge through subtraction rather than addition. This intuitive process creates textured, sculptural surfaces and organic asymmetry, as the material and hands guide its character.
This is a single-made, one-off object. While an identical piece cannot be reproduced, pre-order for a similar style can be discussed via email.
