Kurinuki Cup Nº17 is a hand-carved sculptural ceramic cup crafted using the Japanese kurinuki technique. It features a soft, slightly wider silhouette with horizontal wavy carving, creating a subtle melting effect.

Unlike other pottery techniques, kurinuki begins with a solid block of clay. Each cup is slowly carved from a single mass of anthracite black stoneware, allowing the form to emerge through subtraction rather than addition. This intuitive process creates textured, sculptural surfaces and organic asymmetry, as the material and hands guide its character. No two pieces are exactly alike.

The greenish-grey glaze settles organically, producing natural tonal variations and a stone-like satin-matte surface. The combination of form and surface creates a sculptural object that is functional and visually expressive.

Each cup is individually numbered within the limited Nº17 series.

Product care

Ondou pieces are crafted as functional art objects. While made from high-fired stoneware fired to 1220 °C — which makes them highly durable and resistant to everyday wear — they are still ceramic and can break if dropped or subjected to strong impact. With proper care, they will last for many years.
GENERAL CARE
– Avoid sudden temperature changes (thermal shock). For example, do not pour boiling water into a cup that has been stored in the fridge, and avoid running cold water over a very hot piece.
– Wash using a soft sponge and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive metal scrubbers.
– Do not leave pieces soaking in a sink with food residues for extended periods — basic good hygiene.
– Allow the piece to dry fully before storing in a closed cabinet.

Dishwasher safe?

Yes, but hand-washing is recommended
