Kurinuki Matcha Bowl Nº24 is a hand-carved, sculptural ceramic bowl crafted using the Japanese kurinuki technique. Carved from a beige stoneware, its rounded form is subtly textured — visible subtle surface cracks, gentle carvings, and tool impressions left intentionally as part of the making.

The bowl holds a striking contrast: a restrained, minimal interior against a vivid, painterly exterior that changes with every angle. The interior is finished with a matte white, while the exterior combines an expressively painted surface — wild clay collected locally in Lithuania and coloured slips with a glossy glaze shifting from transparent to deep blue.

Inspired by traditional matcha bowls, it is designed for both whisking and drinking (without a spout), inviting a moment of pause — to observe its textures, decoration, and form, and to settle into presence before the first sip.

It is marked on the base with its design number.

What is kurinuki?

Unlike other pottery techniques, kurinuki begins with a solid block of clay. The bowl is slowly carved from a single mass of stoneware, allowing the form to emerge through subtraction rather than addition. This intuitive process creates textured, sculptural surfaces and organic asymmetry, as the material and hands guide its character.
